Beware of a New Malware Attack
A new wave of cyber attacks is hitting financial institutions across the country. The attack starts when a member inadvertently visits a rogue website where a malware program is downloaded without the user’s knowledge. This malware, known as Zeus, is undetectable by most antivirus software.
When the user visits certain financial institution web sites, the program waits for the user to login and then displays a pop-up page as shown in the image below.
The page is not actually on the MEFCU site, but on the user’s computer. Once the user enters the information, the program transmits the data to criminals. So if you do get a similar screen, DO NOT ENTER INFORMATION. MEFCUDirect.com will never ask you for your credit card number or your PIN for verification.
